How to Fuck it Up, by Rocksteady Studios: Chapter One

Oh hey, press release for Arkham Asylum 2. Cool.

“Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced Batman: Arkham City TM as the title…”

Um…ok?

“…sending players soaring into Arkham City, the new maximum security “home” for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds. Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City…”

Oh, so because Arkham got messed up in the last game, and the crazies ran amok and…got rounded up and moved to the middle of Gotham? Well that makes sense. It’s not like there’s a ton of cool plotlines that have started with the destruction or disuse of Arkham. But no, just make the first game again set in couple of blocks they cordoned off in Gotham. Great.

  1. Sounds like Manhunt.

I’ve always wondered why comic book games have never followed a specific comic book storyline. Instead they always seem to take inspiration from various time lines and plots only to mash them all up together into some sort of all-stars scenario. Yeah, that probably gives us the most total variety of content in one package but it also destroys any hope of achieving something I bet a lot of fans want: continuation of a real plot-line or re-living their favorite stories in video game form. We just always have to accept that a game based on a comic book will never achieve the same level of narrative as its inspiration. Arkham Asylum 1 didn’t even go that far with the mash up concept either…4 bosses? Allusions to other serious Batman villains but never seeing them? Shit, even the sub-boss fights were smaller versions of the real boss fight, Bane. Arkham City never had my interest, but in THE VERY LEAST they could do us a favor and throw like 10-15 villains into the mix. Also, I guess we’re not getting the Batman: GTA that we all thought we were. God, this sounds retarded.
